Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Now that Chicago is out of the running for the 2016 Olympics how about Saltaire 2020???

Think of it -

Chuck Jones(in a scene reminiscent of Ali's lighting of the Olympic flame in Atlanta)ascending the stairs to light the flame

The exclusive Saltaire Yacht Club hosting the sailing events

An Olympic size pool?? HaHa - we've got the Great South Bay and the Atlantic Ocean

Corporate sponsors could buy the Saltaire Market and revitalize the commercial downtown area.

The Olympic Village could be built at the site of the former incinerator and refuse collection point.

The Olympic marathon could be run the length of Fire Island(ironically the original marathon was some 26.3 miles and FI is now some 26 miles long - with the littoral flow of sand from Saltaire beach renourishment projects I see no problem in FI being approx. 26.3 miles long by 2020. I hope though that the Olympic marathon would not upstage the annual Saltaire jogathon.

Any other ideas for this project should be submitted to the Honorable Scott Rosenblum Mayor of the Village of Saltaire
