THE PICTURES ABOVE ARE COURTESY OF LARRY LYNCH, PROBABLY TAKEN BY HIS GRANDFATHER JOE LYNCH OR HIS GRANDMA, BOTH SALTAIRE ICONS. THEY ARE DATED FEB 20, 1927 AND THEY APPARENTLY ARE HOUSES ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF OCEAN PROM. THE ONLY HOUSE IDENTIFIED BY NAME IS THE TOP RIGHT PICTURE, WHICH IS MARKED "BASSINA."

ACCORDING TO SALTAIRE HISTORIAN III ELIZABETH STARKEY, TWO BIG STORMS PRIOR TO 1938 KNOCKED OUT ALL OF THE HOMES SOUTH OF OCEAN PROM: THE FEBRUARY 1927 STORM AND THE 1931 STORM.

THE STORM OF '36

HARDLY A MAN OR WOMAN IS NOW ALIVE WHO REMEMBERS THIS TIME AND PLACE: OCEAN PROMENADE . FRANK MINA'S MOM RECALLED THAT The houses south of Ocean Prom disappeared in a storm in 1936. "Mom said she remembers three at the head of Surf Walk belonged to the Dugan (Bakery) family."

When We Said Mrs. Dobie was an Old Time Saltairian, We Were Not Kidding

Duncan Dobie's Grandma was married in Saltaire on the beach, as this NY Times Article from August 24, 1915 verifies. This kinda gives Duncan credentials as a long time Saltairian.They don't have elopements like this anymore.
