"In the time of your life--live." That time is short and it doesn't return again. It is slipping away while I write this and while you read it, and the monosyllable of the clock is Loss, loss, loss, unless you devote your heart to its opposition (--Tennesse Williams)
Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Saltaire Lifeguard Walks on Water
What was that? Sunday morning (Aug 17, 2009) a man wearing a Saltaire Ocean Rescue t-shirt was seen seemingly walking across the water from bayshore to saltaire shortly after dawn!
Praise OMO! Big Surf on the way! Derf.

Saltaire Ocean Rescue(SOR) lifeguard, Tyson Pfaffe, has been guarding the beaches of Saltaire for the last 15 years. He spends his winters as a teacher on the south shore of LI while he is counting the days until he returns to Broadway. In 2008 Tyson paddled a surf board from the lighthouse to Bay Shore, he swam the Cross Bay Swim 2 weeks ago, and for the fun of it he decided to paddle his Stand Up Paddle(SUP) board to FI on Sunday morning. He left Bay Shore at 7AM, and 1 hour and 40 minutes later he was in front of the Saltaire market having some breakfast. This feat was witnessed by 2 other SOR crew members who also have the photos to verify the crossing. Nice work Tyson.

Very cool! Shows there are lots of imaginative ways to cross the bay besides on a ferry! ... swim, surfboard, stand-up paddle... Dare I ask what next?
Big Deal -
Uncle Pete walked on water w/o the benefit of surfboards, paddle boards, etc.!
