Hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out to all of you with ties to Fire Island regarding a fundraiser in Ocean Beach on July 25 for the Wounded Warrior Project. I posted a flier for the event in the Village of Saltaire public bulletin board in an effort to spread the word.
Thanks for your time,
John Zaccaro Jr
DOCTOR SCONZO SWIMS AGAIN
It is that time of year again. I’ve been swimming in the ocean since May 4th to get in shape for my 5.25 mile charity swim and the water is finally starting to get to a temperature that I can enjoy. Jumping in the ocean at 7 AM when the air temp is 50 and the water temp is 50 is not the way I like to wake up. There was only one day the I put my feet in and just turned around, went back home and slid back under my covers. And there were many more days that I wish I had. Only 18 more days of working out for this great event which is for a great cause.
I am doing this to raise funds to benefit the Hospice Care Network Children and Family Bereavement Program. You can find out more about the swim and the hospice by logging in to greatsouthbayswim.com. If you care to support my cause, please fill out the sponor form and mail together with your check to the address indicated. Thank you for your time and for your support.
All you need is love.
Diane McManus, who swimmed, ( swam) (swum?) last year sings the praises of Dr. Jim's leadership:
Jim,Glad to hear you're taking on the swim again this year! Thanks for the help and encouragement you gave me last year when I did it! Wish you and all the swimmers a safe and successful experience!I'm passing on it for '08, but I hope to be back again within the next few years. It's for a great cause, and an amazingly well-organized event, so I hope it gets a lot of support!Good swimming to all!Diane

p.s. "Swimmed"--I love it! More fun and kidlike than the proper adult "swam"--it just fits the kid in me, the dreamer for whom anything is possible, even swimming across the bay!

YOU SAY "... THE KID IN ME, THE DREAMER..."
I ASK YOU:
DO ONLY CHILDREN DREAM?
OR CAN GROWNUPS DO IT TOO?
I THINK THAT MAYBE GROWNUPS CAN'T
BUT TO ME THAT'S NOT BAD NEWS--
BECAUSE IT MEANS
IF YOU HAVE A DREAM
YOU'LL ALWAYS BE A KID.
DPMcManus has left a new comment on your post " LOVE IN SALTAIRE Saltairians get behind two ...":
While you don't have to be a kid to dream, it helps to keep the "inner kid" fed.
Sit on the dock and eat an ice cream cone... Run SPLASHING LOUD through the water and dive in... Look with wonder at lightning bugs... and ask yourself what kind of batteries they use for their lights. Get together w/ friends and sit around the fireplace (helps to have a cool night for this... 90 in the shade kind of undercuts the experience) telling stories and roasting marshmellows (don't know about roasting friends)... tell a few "knock knock" jokes... build a sand castle... throw in a moat even. I'll make an offer on the sand castle (the only Fire Island real estate I can afford these days)--if if I can get flood insurance for it. ;)
Diane--and her inner kid

Ma damn foot's caught in the door."
Q: "Why did the moron (can we use that word any more?) throw the clock out the window?"
A: "Because he wanted to see time fly."
GOOD LUCK TO THE CROSS BAY SWIMMERS AND THE WOUNDED WARRIORS.
