Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Ocean Prom - according to Frank Mina's mom these houses(and others) were washed out in a hurricane in either '35 or '36.

For current residents of the village this picture should serve as a stark reminder of the power of "Mother Nature" and the futility of beach renourishment projects. The erosion that has occured over the past 70 odd years would place the houses in this picture some 75-100' out into the ocean from the current tide line. Essentially we have lost some 150' of beachfront over this period due to the power of Mother Nature.
