Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Also_ believe the Leviathan was his favorite ship to write about and he did have the quest to go looking for the Savannah- the first one that went down off of Fire Island many years ago.

The original SS Savannah crossed the Atlantic in, I think, 1819. The trip took approx 3 weeks, of which the ship was only under steam power for about 1 day, the rest of which seh was under sail - as the size of the ship limited the amount of coal she could carry. She sank of FI a few years later. In the late 1950's or early 60's the first nuclear powered merchant ship the NS Savannah was launched - she was not a commercial success due to peoples fear of nuclear power.
