Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Are these the photos that used to be hanging up in the Village Hall, which back in my day was also the library. Is it still?

I took all the photos of the water tower falling.

I have the originals sitting here on my wall.

I sat there all morning on the beach waiting for that to happen, Frank was probably on an early morning ferry run.

I even have a super -8 film somewhere.

Phil is absolutely right! Al and I were off West Island when the tower "disappeared". The only time I saw "Eagle Eye" do a double-take. Earlier,I posted some pix of the last time I clumb the tower.

I remember the ropes tied to a truck or trucks on the beach. The photo shows a police 4x4 sitting there.

I had forgotten about the archery range being right there, and all the crazy stuff we got away with as kids.

I'll have to dig deep for that film, I'll see what I can do.

The photos that were hanging in the Village hall were taken by and donated by Justin Zizes, Sr. Those photos are now in the possession of Harry Baker.

What ever happened to that stupid steel ball from the top of the water tower that used to clutter up the lawn next to by the flagpole at the Village Hall? "Tacky" is the word to describe that artifact.

Hey Justin or Harry Baker: are your pictures from a different angle than Phil's? Send one along and we can post that too.
