Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Skinner and John Wait

Cleaning up some photo albums in the last week, the attached photo fell out. Both the print and negative were in an envelope.  The photo of Captain Al and me was taken by our Mom, Nancy Braynard Wait, or our Dad, Harold Wait, Jr.  The photo is not dated but I am guessing it was taken circa 1966-1968 down at the big dock.  He did lots of fishing, boating, and hunting on the bay and was very willing to share what he learned.  Of course I don't recall what we were talking about then, but I recall him sharing tips on catching blue claw crabs behind East Island (chunks of eel tied to a rope are much better bait than the more common chicken legs for instance), where he and Helen Krolikowski used to go for Oysters behind Captree, etc

Hope you fared well from Sandy.

Answer: No.... That wonderful world is long gone... To quote Simon& Garfunkel--"preserve your memories, there all that;'s left you"--Old Friends--Bookends album--1968

Agreed. Those days are gone forever. There is no longer the mix of cultures and people that once inhabited Saltaire. Money won out over tradition a while back.
