Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

The most telling photo of all

Mansions. Wonderful Houses. Our oceanfront was lined with magnificent houses around 1920. Kind of like today.

 The 1920 Houses were gone.

By 1927.

Not a very nice thing to say at this sad time.

If you look at these posts about this storm, they are full of optimism and hope for the future. If one of post strikes you as vaguely "not very nice" I could take it down, provided that I took down every comment ever written on this blog.

You need to keep up the post. We take the good with the bad (or sad) and move on. It's what makes the place special.

I am not sure how "sad" fits into this equation at all. Presumably, people like Saltaire, inter alia, to be close to nature.I see the awesome beauty of nature and creation:

When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made
I see the stars
I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout
The universe displayed

How great thou art
Then sings my soul
How great Thou art
