Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

A Great Photo Essay

Catch this: a guy named Evan has a blog about walking to different post offices and in August 2011 he visited Kismet, Saltaire, F.H. and OB. Nice images and words about Saltaire.

Glad you liked the post! It was one of my more unique adventures -- especially hoofing it from Fire Island Pines to Davis Park before everything closed for the season.

I usually drive to POs (yes, that's my hobby), but I think it's fortunate that people are forced to take the slow road on Fire Island. You can really take in the different communities that way.

Saltaire does have such a wonderful character; wouldn't mind having a summer home there when I can afford it. Of the thousands of communities I've visited in America, Saltaire is among my favorites.
