Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

UPDATES NEEDED

KIM MERCHANT LINCOLN SEZ:

The first picture is from the Labor Day Show in 1973. Left to right are Cathy Shaw, Diane Kelly, Marianne Sconzo, Kim Merchant, and Margaret Elkind. We performed a song actually titled DOOFUS. We pleaded with good friend Maura Starkey to join us but she was "too cool" for braids and overalls even then. The rest of us thought cool only referred to temperature and we knew how hot the SYC got.The below picture has all five of the girls at an engagement party for Margaret Elkind in the Shaws apartment above MOMA in 1989. We are all readily identifiable here. Maura was at this party, she was one of the cohosts, but someone missed out on the group pic. This summer I'll have to make sure to have another foto of us together. This time we'll have to make sure to get Maura Starkey in the pic.

Well I'm not the kind to live in the past

The years run too short and the days too fast

The things you lean on are the things that don't last

Well it's just now and then my line gets cast

into these Time passages

There's something back here that you left behind

Oh time passages

Buy me a ticket on the last boat home tonight

Somebody should update these photos. This last one is 22 years ago. Where are they now?
