Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

That is a beautiful picture.
THE BLOG OPERATOR SHOULD GIVE THE PROPER CREDIT FOR THIS PHOTO - KUDOS TO LINDA CAHILL FROM BARRIER BEACH REALTY FOR THIS PICTURE. NOT ONLY DOES IT CAPTURE THE WINTER BEAUTY OF THE BEACH WHEN POPULATED BY THE YEAR AROUND DUNEBILLIES BUT IT ALSO SHOWS THAT AT LONG LAST THE SNOW FENCING IS BEING POSITIONED PROPERLY TO CAPTURE THE SHIFTING SANDS.
Yes great pic. Almost too good. I.E. Mathew Brady Civil War photo staging.
Derf, a student of both photography and the Civil War. Impressive. However, though considered the most famous of the Civil War photographers, many of the famous photographs were taken by his numerous employees. Name the photographer who took the last portrait of Lincoln prior to his assassination and was given exclusive rights to photograph the execution's of Surratt, Powell, Atzerodt, and Herold in what is now Ft McNair. Hint - a Saltaire resident shared the same last name.
Jim, be careful how you use the "snow fencing" It was told to once that the "sand fencing" is given to the village and to the other communities as a grant. The story goes that the agency in charge once asked why does the community need snow fencing when it is a barrier beach island. We had to adopt a change of language from snow to sand or grant money would not be allocated.
