Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

CAPTAIN FRANK GOT IT FROM THE HORSE'S MOUTH:

All five members of the Patterson family are pictured on the left of the brochure. Elmer (Pat) is far left. He told me that he and his family were often rounded up for "people pix" by the Fire Island Beach Development Corp.

"Mother says" that the post office was originally located on the site of the village hall which was newly finished just before the '38 hurricane. She thinks the building was moved back (east) onto Pommander and turned sideways. I still have the brass cover to our Box 196 which Rick Gibson and I retrieved from the dump.

BTW, all five members of the Patterson family are pictured on the left of the brochure. Elmer (Pat) is far left. He told me that he and his family were often rounded up for "people pix" by the FIBDC.
