Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

SUNDAY IS THE THIRD ANNUAL MARCUS MEMORIAL LANDLUBBERS RACE

Skipper's Meeting 12:30
Race begins at 1PM -

This the 3rd annual Marcus Cup Race - It was instituted after Larry died in May, 2007

The last two years the weather has been great and the sailing was terriffic. Afterwards we usually sit around on the deck and have a few beers - its been a really nice tribute to a man so many people knew and admired.

Lets have a great time in his memory-- that's how Larry would have wanted it.

Derf sez:
Dan's photos are amazing, but the last photo really seems to capture Larry Marcus, a truly wonderful man.

Uh... Ed Koch?? Did someone already tell the story about Ed Koch coming to Saltaire?

Has anyone told the story how I tried to shoot down the helicopter Ed Koch was flying into town with? I refused to allow my town to be invaded by the New York City Police, so I broke out the "Kaboom" and opened fire firing tennis balls.

Larry should never have had a driver's license. Obviously he had a friend (or many) in the DMV in Albany to get LNM-5 on his plates for that wreck of a station wagon.

Can you name anyone other than his wife Claire or daughter Susan that could not only "understand" but reply in kind to Larry's "unique" language?
