Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

CROSS BAY SWIM - Congratulations SALTAIRE!

Fifteen Saltairians did us proud crossing the Bay last Friday for the 2009 Maggie Fischer Memorial Great South Bay Swim.   In order of appearance on the mainland side (mixed in among 80 some-odd other swimmers): Rich Wilde; Stephanie Palmeri; Meredith English; Katrina Lundstedt; Alex Patterson; Tyson Pfaffe; Tom Sconzo; Jim Sconzo; Michael Steinmetz; Alex Chefetz; Tom Vautier; Andres Delgado; Alexis Ferguson; Ashley Ferguson; James Ferguson.

These swimmers are 4 current Saltaire lifeguards, 5 former lifeguards, 4 relatives of  lifeguards, one softball commissioner, and one special guest and honorary Saltairian  (thanks for bringing us Katrina Hercus!)  Their kayakers were all also from Saltaire and that was one windy day for the kayakers ---- HATS oFF  to You all!!   (Kayaker list to follow.)    Check out the official website for the swim at www.greatsouthbayswim.com. There are histories, pictures, much info.

Congratulations to all the swimmers! Great job! I heard conditions were pretty tough even at the start! Way to swim, folk!

And let's not forget two more Saltairians, Bob and Mary Fischer, who have given so much of themselves to making the swim such a great success!
