Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Doug Brewster built quite a number of military tug... Doug Brewster built quite a number of military tugboats under contract during WWII and then went on to fill the void by rebuilding ferries to keep up with Patterson's quest for speed which was contagious among ferry owners."Drying the Nets" was on the shoreline of what is now the east side of the Saltaire Terminal and the west side of Maple Avenue Marina. The open shed was a waiting room for the ferries into the 1950's. Wish I had a high res scan to be able to name the two ferries on the west side of the Maple Avenue dock.
