Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

The answer to your all your questions as to who is this bathing beauty -

Itis none other than Marie Bitzer at age 33(She was born the same day that Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomatox Court House in April 1865)

You are apparently living in a fools paradise. This is my Aunt Anne Tilden showing a little leg at the tender age of 25. How could you mistake her for Marie Bitzer, other than they were both real estate mavens?

Aunt Anne went on to go from having a LOT of property and dollars to almost broke thanks to panic selling after JFK was shot. She was able to do a sort of reverse Horatio Alger story by careful selling and thoughtful divestment.

Do you see those outhouses in the background?

They are the ones that the Village put up under order of the State.
