THIS PHOTO SHOWS THE OLD SURF HOTEL. WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO FIND OUT IS WHAT IS THE BIG BUILDING BETWEEN THE SURF HOTEL AND THE LIGHTHOUSE.
ANY IDEAS?

THE DEFINITIVE ANSWER COMES FROM COSMO:"The building is the Albany House, part of the Surf Hotel complex."-----

This structure appears larger and probably predates it but didn't the Coast Guard or some gov't agency maintain a radio station separate and distinct from the lightkeepers quarters somewhat to the east of the lighthouse? I remember my father saying that this radio station intercepted a transmission that the troopship he was on had been torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat on its way to England. The troopship was the West Point, which in civilian life was the liner SS America.
Dear Gang,
If I ever get those albums out, I can probably tell, but it may be the "Black Tower" or possibly an early version of the RCA telegraph system, later known as "Voice of America". Does Justin have any way to date the photo?
