Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

PICTURE #1 - THAT'S OBVIOUSLY A CAPT AL LOOK-ALIKE IN THE PHOTO - THE REAL CAPT AL HAD AN ENORMOUS BEER BELLY FROM DRINKING COUNTLESS CANS OF SCHAFFER & RINGES NORWEGIAN BEER + NUMEROUS BOTTLES OF BELLOWS RESERVE WHISKEY. I REMEMBER THE 2ND SUMMER I WORKED AS A DECKHAND FOR HIM - HE'D KNOWN MY FAMILY AT THIS TIME FOR NEARLY 10 YEARS. SOMEONE, ASKED HIM - "WHAT'S BEAVERS REAL NAME?" TO WHICH HE RESPONDED "AS FAR AS I KNOW IT'S BEAVER" HE WAS A TRULY UNIQUE CHARACTER(AND I MEAN THAT IN TERMS OF THE UTMOST RESPECT), THE LIKES OF WHICH WE WILL SADLY NEVER SEE AGAIN.
Now ater all the abuse I have taken from Beaver, I surely could have a field day with the prior post, but my utmost respect for hi, as well as any reciprocopal comments he may post about me, leave me speachless at this time.
Gee, a party on the McManus deck. With my uncle George! He was rarely seen in Saltaire much after this...but he looks quite at home in this picture. THANKS for posting them--I suspect that if all the pictures of parties on that deck were posted on the Blog there would be no room for anything else!
