Could everyone write one simple essay about something that once happened in Saltaire…that they saw or were a part of…and put it on one big website? Somebody should collect a lot of stories before we all forget. Otherwise it is like a line in “On The Beach” : The history of the war that now would never be written.” -(JO'H)

Excursion/Reunion Set for May 3

We are going to have our second annual Lighthouse Tour/Excursion/Reunion on Saturday, May 3, 2008. Our Point of Reunion this year is:

Montauk Point Lighthouse

This is a great way to get people together in a nice one day outing. We figure: a brunch somewhere out East; maybe stop at a shop or two, then a couple hours around the Lighthouse and terrific surrounding park, including a walk through the woods down to the beach -- one of the most picturesque spots on Long Island. (A great surfing spot too.) We can all take pix with our Argus and Brownies and Instamatics in a beautiful setting. On the way back, we can chow down at Gosmans or some South fork diner or greasy spoon.

Family members urged to attend.

If you don't want to drive, we can accomodate LIRR passengers: Plenty of trains to and from Montauk.

"Having been some days in preparation
A splendid time is guaranteed for all"
And of course Frank Mina can tell us about Fresnel lenses!

Everyone is welcome. To determine if we can get a critical mass together, click on "comments" below and let us know if you would like to attend.

Just a thought -

In lieu of the ceremonial tossing of Larry Lynch's Garden City baseball cap off the top of the FI Lighthouse some 50 years ago could we do the following at Montauk??-

To appease the surf and erosion Gods how about we toss Frank Mina off the top of the Montauk Lighthouse??
